 This is a very unusual combination of gift and storm glass.  Upon receiving this the liquid in this air tight container is clear.  The lovely tear drop design and the clear mix of chemicals within are based on the principle of the European Storm Glass in the 17th century.  This unit needs to sit in your house out of the sunlight or any air con's and the liquid needs to adjust to its surrounds.  Once it has settled you will be able to judge what the weather will be like the following days as to what kind of crystals form.  The weather and temperature will make the crystals react in a specific way.  If they form star shapes then it means you can expect snow.  Feathery shapes means cloudy possibly rain.  If the liquid is muddy it will mean it will be cloudy possible gloomy and if the liquid is clean and clear then it should be fine and cloudless.

I have seen the star like crystal formation and believe it or not it did snow.  This comes in 3 different sizes and you can buy wooden bases to display them on.  This one is 6*12cm and the smallest of the three.  I personally just like it as an artistic decoration.


This item is best kept out of reach of the little ones and put somewhere you can all look at it.  You get a description on the packaging with regards to what shape crystals represent which weather.  You could turn it into a guessing game with the kids.  It is a nice product and different from anything I have ever purchased before.  If you are looking for something unusual then why not try this.  At the end of the day whether it predicts the weather correctly or not, it doesn't matter, but its fun guessing.
